Hi All,
My name is Nicole Hatch and I am entering RSU #13 as the school counselor for Lura Libby and Cushing Community School this year. If you would like to know more about me feel free to explore the “About” section of my webpage. I have posted a video where I let you know all about my professional background. So first off, HOORAY and THANKS for taking the time to read this and find out about my blog! The main purpose of the blog will be to talk about programming that is being offered to your students, and at times parent group information as well (stay tuned). Second, I believe in transparency, where ethically applicable, and feel that it will help promote communication and healthy dialogue between myself, parents, administrators, teachers, Ed. Techs... or really anyone who is invested in the well-being of our students. I love feedback, so please know that I am more than willing to have a discussion – just contact me and we can find a time that works for the both of us. Lastly, being in tune with expectations or ideas that your student is being exposed to will help for carryover (if you want to do it) in the home. If you are able to see what your student has learned, it may be easier to engage in a more focused dialogue. Example of conversation without knowledge of lesson plans: Parent: What did you do today? Student: Nothing (where conversation may or may not typically end in your home) Example of conversation with knowledge of lesson plans: Parent: What did you do today? Student: Nothing Parent: Well, Mrs. Hatch said you were working on communication this week… what activities did you all work on? Student: Oh yeah, we had to figure out to follow a bunch of directions without using words as a group. Parent: What was the point of that? Student: To help us understand that some communication can be done without words. This conversation would move along based on the questions you continue to ask, but the important part is that simply by having a discussion with your student you are reinforcing the concepts that they were exposed to earlier in the day or week. The next post will have the first lesson plan of the year, with an explanation of what each section is for. Looking forward to a fabulous 2015-2016 school year! Nicole
